Mountain Woodworker was formally created by Phil Rasmussen in 2009 after retirement from both the military and the NC Community College System.
Phil's first exposure to woodworking was at his grandfather's knees when he was around seven years old. His Grandfather was a noted craftsman in the Boston area and did much of the repair work to furniture and other items at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
As he grew, Phil kept an interest in woodworking helping his father with home projects. In 1959,he turned his first cup and bowl while attending school in Turkey.
Continuing with his education while in the service, Phil developed his artistic skills through art and photography courses. While attending Rochester Institute of Technology, he sold his first piece of woodwork (a dinning room table) at a student art exhibit.
Since graduating from college he has taught courses at the community college and university level for students and faculty alike until he retired in 2009, at which time he formed Mountain Woodworker. While creating masterful pieces of woodworking, he continues to lecture and demonstrate various aspects of woodworking.

For Chelsea 3 3/4” Clock Stand
I’m extremely happy with the custom ship’s clock stand Phil made for me - the workmanship and fit are perfect. Phil was professional, courteous, and asked me all the right questions to get this right the first time. I’d gladly work with Phil again, and highly recommend him to others.

For Cedar Keepsake Box
Top notch work! I needed a keep sake box for a doll from the 1890s that was my Great Grandmother's. Phil did an awesome researching what wood would work, finish, etc., explaining why it was necessary to use very low acid type of wood and finish. Exceedingly knowledgeable about his craft, a true artisan and professional. Highly recommended!!

For custom keepsake box as a wedding gift
Phil did an excellent job with my order for a personalized wedding gift. He was prompt and professional throughout the entire process, and he gave me options to help with cost when it came down to making a decision. I decided to go with a keepsake box and when it arrived I was surprised at just how much it smelled of beautiful cedar. Phil also let me provide my own art which he engraved onto the top of the box, and that came out perfectly as well. The shipping time to arrive at my location was VERY quick! He packed it so well, I thought I was getting a shipment of moon rocks. In my opinion, you can't go wrong working with Phil Rasmussen. You will end up with a one-of-a-kind piece of art that you, or your loved one, will always treasure!

For Cases For U.S. Flags
Phil did the most amazing job! From our beginning written discussions we narrowed down what I wanted. The craftmanship is exceptional. It was a joy to interact on this project which gave me such a fitting tribute to my husband's flag from Arlington National Cemetery. Thank you so much!
