In the hills above Winter Park is a beautiful home overlooking the aspens. I was commissioned to design and make a spalted maple table with copper and bronze resin combining the two live organic edge pieces of wood to create the 102"L x 42" live edge table top slab in the large open multi-use room surrounded by other arts and crafts. The table is supported by a custom blackened raw steel base. I was pleased to also provide the Mid Century modern Kennedy chair replications in solid walnut and black leather. I design each table project to fit the needs of each individual customer. These natural edge slabs are usually cut around 2" thick or even up to 3"+ or more inches. Some times we are able to book match the wood which is taking two pieces of wood from the same log and mirroring the grain of them to each out . There are many ways to incorporate the beauty of the natural wood in the table. This could be a coffee table, a console or end table, an entry table, conference table or any number of other concepts. Let me know what you need and if at all possible, I will build it. I treat each project as a marriage of art and design, functional art. A coffee table or end table depending on requirements will start in the range of $1,500+. If you are looking for a kitchen table or dinning table the price point will start around $3,000+. Many kitchen or dinning tables end up in the range of $4,500-$9,500+ or more because of size, the wood species, the base, and customers needs and requirements. Delivery and installation are priced as required. I can work in almost any wood species, however certain woods work best to have a live edge. We reclaim as much wood as possible, cutting dead or injured trees and saving them from the furnace or chipper. Some beautiful woods include elm, walnut, ash, hickory, sycamore, maple, oak, cherry, and cedar, however we are not limited to these woods. Specialty characteristics such as spalting, crotch wood, curly wood and of course burl are all potentials. Please consider that a single wood slab section will have a higher price than if you put two or more sections together to create the width. As would be expected, the larger the table, the larger the tree required to produce the slab and the more time finishing. If a slab needs to be fresh cut there is a greater amount of time required to produce the work as it will need to be air or kiln dried. Our time frame is based on dry ready to use wood. Details. We can provide those little details that make all the difference, including butterfly inlaid joints out of wood or metal. We also can provide inset work, carved areas, glass, clear or metallic colored resin, laser engraved, carvings etc. For the base, I tend to make them out of metal for durability and the contrast look. I can custom design and produce the legs as well as I am trained in metal fabrication and casting. The legs could be painted/or powder coated almost any color, plated silver or bronze/gold in color, made in bronze or brass, or black, natural steel, or any number of other colors or color patinas. We could even design and cast table legs in metal to fit your design. Each piece is unique. Why would you have something custom made otherwise? You want your very own special made table to enjoy and hand down as an heirloom. Time frame for design and production will vary however typical time frame for a table is 8+ weeks once we have chosen the wood and the wood is dried and ready to work. If you need something quicker it is possible if I am able to find the right slab to meet your needs that is already aged to perfection. I have produced work for local residences in the Midwest to penthouse suites in New York, and homes on the West Coast. I have worked on commercial and hospitality projects over the entire world, from mom and pop shops to projects to working for high end fashion, governments and movies. I don't just provide tables, but design and produces entire spaces. If you want to talk about how I can assist on your project click the "Contact Maker" button and let me know. Very best, Darin White

As an artist, I found my love of objects at an early age. I was always drawing diagrams on napkins and discussing how things were made, like my father and grandfather. They owned and operated a display manufacturing business, so I was around design and material process from the beginning. My entrepreneurial career began around the age of seven, when I asked my dad to help me cut out some wood shapes on a small jigsaw, added color and sold them on the driveway. i was hooked.
After a year playing college football and throwing javelin in Indiana, I honed my art skills especially metal fabrication and casting finishing with a BFA in sculpture at the University of Kansas. During art school my brother Brian and I designed and made alternative clothing for the skate crowd. My wife and I began selling visual merchandising products to retailers, eventually garnering major clients all over the world. We also started HAVA studios to collaborate on creative projects which led to unique and very high end work. Many times I was providing the design and project management and not having the time to work on the making. I have had to carve out time to make art and also collaborated with my wife on award winning public art.
A few years ago, after chain saw carving a large 8' sculpture out of a huge spalted maple log. The wood cut away was so beautiful, so I carved my wife small piece and hung it on a silver chain. She received many comments and requests about the "wearable sculpture" pendant and I started making them for family and friends, and eventually galleries. Because splating is a natural process; like a finger print, there are no two alike. I expanded the hand carvings to earrings and rings, and then started making other objects including small freestanding sculptures and charcuterie/cheese serving boards, while filling custom requests for furniture and lighting as well as interior design.
My work is driven by my love of shape and form. I tend to be minimal in design. I work with whatever material is the best for the project but have an affinity for wood and metal. I also work in stone, acrylic, glass, resin, foam, and many other unique materials. I take commissions while also producing my original designs. My fine artwork is available upon request.
