Unlike jagged plastic or rock-hard bamboo (grass), only wood has natural anti-microbial, self-cleaning properties, making it the most sanitary choice for any working counter surface, as recent studies have clearly proven. Why shouldn't something we use every day also be unique and beautiful? Island tops pictured are built to custom order from specialty spalted maple timber. This one measures 48" x 28" x 3" thick. We work with responsible local arborists and sawyers to perform the modern art of urban wood salvage around the greater Asheville area, preserving large trees of a wide variety of species in beautiful slab form that would otherwise be ground up at the mulch yard and turning them into custom-designed furniture and–for lack of a more humble word–art.
